I suspect, if you are a smartphone owner, you probably have a pretty impressive collection of selfies, food shots, scenic pics, and social snaps you have collected over the years, too. Whether you’re a professional photographer or a casual one, there is an extensive marketplace for mobile photography. With today’s smartphone cameras more powerful than ever, you really can take some impressive portraits, panoramas, and pout-face selfies directly from your phone.
In the past, I have shared how to make money selling photos online. In today’s smartphone world, it’s easier than ever to make extra money selling stock photos from your smartphone, too. Your phone is likely always with you. Photo opportunities are all around. Pulling up an app is certainly quicker than uploading a photo to your computer and then a website. So, why not get paid with this easy money-maker?
Here are some of the best apps and services you can use to sell your smartphone art.
Download the app from www.foap.com.
This app, which is available for both Android and iOS devices, is designed to help mobile photographers profit from their hard work. With the app, users can simply start uploading their photos and making them available for purchase as stock images. People shop the Foap gallery and pay $10 for each image they purchase. You will get $5 and Foap will get the other $5. You can sell the same image an unlimited amount of times.
The key to success on Foap is to:
- Upload many high-quality photos into your portfolio
- Mix up the types of photos you take
- Add the right tags so you’re easier to find in searches
- Use the “Latest Sold” tab in the app to find what kinds of photos are in-demand and start snapping away
- Learn from your fellow shutterbugs on the community forums
- Join many missions.
Download the app from www.clashot.com
Perhaps the best part about Clashot is it is one of the more popular stock photos sites in the world. Clashot is part of DepositPhotos, a large stock image company. So, your photos have the potential to be seen by millions of global buyers.
Similar to other stock photo sites, Clashot asks you to upload your best pictures for buyers to review. All photos you sell via the Clashot App will be priced according to DepositPhotos Photobank Guidelines ($0.50 all the way to $80.00 each!). As an author, you’ll earn about 44% of the sales price.
Clashot will also send out “Offers” that request photos of a specific theme or subject. Offers pay up 50 times higher than just normal photo uploads.
Download the app from www.snapwi.re
This is another challenge-based site. Submit photos according to current Buyer needs.
Snapwire also introduces challenges that ask photographers to submit their best work for cash (think $100, rather than $5). The challenge has a creative brief with guidelines and Photo Shooters take their best shots and submit them. Favorite shots are nominated and then the best ones are bought. If your photos are nominated as a “favorite” by the buyer, you “level up” which means you get access to commissioned assignments and live Buyer Requests.
Buyers vote for and purchase their favorites (you earn 70% on Buyer Requests). The best images submitted to the site will also be added to the Marketplace where photographers can earn 50% of subsequent sales.
They even release free (yes, FREE!) shots for use. So, bloggers and brands, don’t forget to bookmark Snapwire’s 7 free shots released every 7 days.
Download the app from www.snapcape.com
If you want more direction when you get into the business of selling your mobile photography, give Snapcape a shot. Snapcape asks you to sell your photos within certain categories, such as restaurants, hotels, pets and laptops. However, you need to submit 10 photos to the administrators via email to hone in on the perfect candidates for the company’s group of artists. You choose the sale amount (anywhere from $1.00 to $5.00).
Download the app from www.stockimo.com
If you want a company with a reputation you can believe in, try Stockimo. It’s a subsidiary of Alamy, one of the world’s largest stock photo agencies. Since it started, the company has paid $140M out to photographers. The process is simple – upload mobile photography from your smartphone into Stockimo, and once it’s approved, it goes up for sale. You receive a commission for every photo sold, and you are permitted to retain the copyright to your work.
Download the app from www.dreamstime.com
Dreamstime is one of the largest stock photo sites with millions of global customers. With their Stock Photos App, you can get your photos in front of a worldwide audience and start earning cash. When you sell on Dreamstime, you still own the copyrights to your images. You are simply “lending” your photos for use by others. You can earn up to $12.00 for each license that you sell.
If you are a more advanced photographer, Dreamstime has a Keymasters Program that will help you make the most out of your photos.
The app is built for ease of use, so you can start uploading images quickly. You can even take pictures and store them in the app even without an internet connection. Once you regain a signal, photos will automatically be synced and uploaded.
Even if you’re just a casual photographer, there is high demand for top quality mobile photography on the internet. Exploring these options can help you monetize your work. The next time you pick up your smartphone to take a picture, consider taking a couple shots for profit. When you have one of these six apps on your phone, you are one step closer to putting money in your pocket!
